Respite care is considered to be a short break and known as that in some countries. People that take care of loved ones that need assistance to live and take care of themselves can get very stressed out with all the duties involved and the want for personal space or activities.
This is where respite care comes in. It is basically just another caregiver on a temporary basis to give the primary caregiver a break. Using respite care has shown positive effects on the quality of care on the patient and a reduction in caregiver stress. People who use respite care have also been less likely to institutionalize the care recipient.
