I think my dad might be needing more care than I can provide him now that he is getting older. What are the signs that he needs to move into a retirement home?
There are a number of symptoms, usually coinciding, that will indicate the need for being tested for Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association has an excellent list:
Memory loss that disrupts daily life
Challenges in planning or solving problems
Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home, at work or at leisure
Confusion with time or place
Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships
New problems with words in speaking or writing
Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
Decreased or poor judgment
Withdrawal from work or social activities
Changes in mood and personality
If you notice any of these symptoms in your father you should contact you family physician as soon as possible.
