To become a professional geriatric care manager and recognized by the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers you must meet the following requirements:
You must hold a Baccalaureate, Master’s or Ph.D. with at least one degree held in a field related to care management. These degrees can include counseling, nursing, mental health, social work, psychology or gerontology.
You must be primarily engaged in the direct practice of services to elderly and their families and have two years of supervised experience in the field of gerontology following the completion of your degree or you may be a non-degreed RN or individual with a Baccalaureate, Master’s or Ph.D. degree who is primarily engaged in the direct practice of services to the elderly and their families and have 3 years of supervised experience in the field of gerontology.
You must hold one of the following approved certifications: Care Manager Certified (CMC), Certified Case Manager (CCM), Certified Advanced Social Worker in Case Management (C-ASWCM), or Certified Social Work Case Manager (C-SWCM).
